Mobile X-ray Machine: Repair or Replace

1. Situations Suitable for Direct Replacement

  1. Service life over 8 years

Severe overall aging, frequent minor faults requiring annual repairs. Original spare parts are discontinued and hard to source; breakdowns recur shortly after maintenance. Replacing the machine is more cost-effective than repeated repairs.

  2. Damage to core major components (excessively high repair cost)
  • Complete breakdown or severe aging of the X-ray tube
  • Burned-out high-voltage generator or damaged integral inverter mainboard
  • Burned flat panel detector, distorted imaging screen, or severe image drift
The repair cost of a single core component is nearly half the price of a new machine, making replacement the more practical option.
  1. Frequent shutdowns with monthly malfunctions

Frequent error alerts and unexpected downtime disrupt clinical radiography. Repeated temporary fixes cannot resolve fundamental aging issues; equipment replacement is recommended.

  2. Severe water ingress, moisture damage or structural deformation from impact

Extensive circuit corrosion, deformed frame structure, and widespread burnout of internal circuit boards. Massive repair workload and potential hidden safety hazards make direct replacement advisable.

  3. Discontinued old models with unavailable spare parts

Manufacturer has ceased production, and original accessories are no longer available. The equipment cannot be properly maintained and should be replaced.

  4. Repair quote exceeds 30% of a new machine’s price

Low cost-performance for expensive repairs. It is more worthwhile to upgrade to a new machine with official warranty coverage.

2. Situations Suitable for Professional Repair

  1. Faults of minor circuits and small accessories

Damage to fuses, aviation plugs, power cords, foot switches, emergency stop buttons, limit switches and door interlock switches.

Repair costs range from tens to hundreds of dollars; full machine replacement is unnecessary.

  2. Software, system and parameter configuration issues

Industrial control unit crash, software error prompts, parameter disorder, and flat panel disconnection. Most issues can be resolved via system reinstallation and parameter reset, requiring only simple software debugging.

  3. Mild overheating protection of the X-ray tube

No permanent burnout; triggered by prolonged continuous radiography or poor heat dissipation. Normal operation can be restored by dust cleaning, heat dissipation improvement and optimized operating habits.

  4. Minor power supply and battery faults

Battery power loss, faulty charger or regulated power supply failure. Replacing individual batteries or chargers is sufficient, with no need for full machine replacement.

  5. Nearly new equipment within 3 years of use

Still under warranty or newly out of warranty with intact overall hardware service life. All faults should prioritize professional repair.

  6. Occasional single malfunction with stable post-repair performance

Infrequent tripping, error alerts or interlock activation. Normal operation can be restored through system reset and circuit inspection; these are accidental protection triggers that do not require equipment replacement.
